  • Security ONE saves home after the family dog started a fire

A Windsor family is lucky they didn’t lose their entire home after their dog started a fire. Security ONE clients, Jesse Garant and Jessica Lockhart were going out for a dinner across the border in Detroit when Security ONE called to notify about a smoke alarm going off. The Fire Department was there in minutes and discovered that the 9 year old dog had jumped up onto the stove and accidentally turned on their stove. A cutting board near by soon caught fire and triggered the monitored smoke alarm.

Security ONE central station operator, Molly Gillanders recently paid the client a visit and received a Life Safety award from Security ONE. Rich Garton of CTV was on hand to tell the story.

Dustin Vermast, Director of Sales & Loyalty Operations shares that “this is a prime example of how alarm systems can save lives and property.” Vermast suggests that “all alarm systems are capable of adding not only Fire but Flood and Carbon Monoxide monitoring. Security ONE has an all-inclusive monitoring rate so adding more types of monitoring in addition to burglary is a no-brainer.”

Security & Safety Tips for Small Businesses

    Install Emergency alarms
Local regulations will most likely include installing fire and CO2 alarms. Make sure these are always tested so in the event of a fire or high levels of CO2 employees will be notified. Go above and beyond and install extra alarms because it is better to be safe than sorry.

    Protect your digital assets
Cyber security is a growing risk, especially with more elements of a business being made digital. Pay for security software and keep it updated, it is better to pay now than pay later. Make sure all employees are taught how to properly and securely use any computer systems. Do not download anything from potential malicious websites.

    Protect important Company assets
It’s important to always be prepared, a break-in or robbery can occur at anytime. Make sure that all files are kept in locked storage that is waterproofed if possible. Employee files, tax documents, invoices and other documents should be safely stored. Fire proof storage would also be beneficial, but if not possible create duplicates of documents and either digitally store them or keep them at another location. A spare key should also be kept off-site.

    Install a security system
Surveillance cameras are a great way to prevent crime. Criminals are less likely to break-in to a business if there are visible security cameras. Monitored security systems are available, making your business protected at all times. Criminals may “scope out” your business before breaking in, if you catch any suspicious activity, report it to the local authorities.

    7 Easy Home Security Tips

    7 Easy Home Security Tips!

    Landscape with security in mind

Clean up any overgrown patches where burglars could hide. Don’t hide your spare keys in any obvious spots or get a lockbox to make it more difficult to access your home.

    Introduce yourself to your neighbors

Work together with neighbors and keep an eye out for them. If there is suspicious activity and you are sure there is a problem, call the police and report it.

    Add Lighting

Motion activated lighting outdoors and lights on timers indoors should be used as burglary prevention. That way, it will seem as if someone is home even if there isn’t anyone there.

    Get a Safety Routine

Lock all doors and windows, check that your alarm system is activated every time you leave the house. After doing this many times consistently you will do it automatically.

    Manage Visibility

Put any valuables out of site and make sure there isn’t anything in front of windows that can be looked in from the outside. Make sure you can see who is at the front door without opening it.

    Protect Outdoor Valuables

Lock up any BBQ’s, lawn furniture and pool supplies. Anything else should be kept in a locked shed or garage. Don’t give hooligans a reason to steal or break your things!

Create a Plan for when you’re Away

Have your mail held or have a neighbor remove flyer’s and newspapers. Make sure anything valuable is locked up. Arrange for someone to cut the lawn or remove snow, it will seem as if someone is home.

  • Who Deserves to Win Press Release

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local Security Company Steps Up to Help Women’s Shelter
    December 11,2017 – (Windsor, ON)

The Hiatus House, a social service agency offering confidential intervention for families experiencing domestic violence, was the lucky winner of Security ONE’s fourth annual “Who Deserves to Win” contest. Security and life-safety is taken very seriously at the Hiatus House as many women and children rely on the refuge that the building provides.

Chris Neumann, Director of Corporate Strategy for Security ONE was thrilled that Hiatus House was this year’s recipient. “When we heard that the Hiatus House was in need of a new fire monitoring solution and panic buttons, we jumped at the chance to assist,” said Neumann. “We’ve been a partner with the Hiatus House for over a decade and we have a team member who’s Fiancée works there, so the Organization is near and dear to our heart.”

Mimicking previous years, the Security ONE team produced a short film highlighting the installation and showcases several interviews with key Hiatus House staff including Executive Director, Tom Rolfe. Rolfe was ecstatic that Security ONE could assist and update their fire alarm system because “the last thing we want is some kind of breach in our [fire &] security” said Rolfe.

Jeff Tavares, Service Manager for Security ONE was looking forward to this day for a longtime. “Our technicians and sales staff love this contest. We all wear Santa Hats and wrap the equipment like Christmas gifts. Everyone gets a hands-on appreciation of the peace of mind we provide day in and day out to our clients,” added Tavares.

Corey Robertson, Director of Marketing, summed it up perfectly. “This is why we do what we do. We’ve got a pretty great job when we get to go home at the end of the day, knowing that we we’ve been able to help someone be more safe and secure.”
