Security ONE Provides Video Surveillance for Community Organization vandalized multiple times

(Windsor, ON) – In the last week, WE Trans Support has been vandalized on at least three separate occasions in what has been described as hate crimes. Local Security provider Security ONE Alarms has stepped up with the donation of a Smart Video Surveillance System.

WE Trans Support Executive Director Alexander Reid says the attacks started as graffiti but have escalated. “A rusted wheel rotor from a vehicle was thrown through the front window, shattering the glass, damaging our new floors,” he said.  The organization has launched a Go Fund Me page to help with the repair costs.

Responding to this plea to the community, Security ONE Alarms has stepped up with the donation of a Smart Video Surveillance System to help deter future crimes. “Security ONE stands with our partners at WE Trans Support in calling for solidarity against hatred,” said Corey Robertson, Manager of Community Partnerships at Security ONE. “Helping to protect people and organization’s property is what we do.”

Robertson went on to say that WE Trans would be receiving the latest in Video Surveillance technology. “We’re installing Smart Video Surveillance cameras with a Streaming Video Recorder that will allow for very powerful analytics of the footage that can be accessed from anywhere,” he said. “And with our 5 Diamond Award winning Central Monitoring Station, they’ll have an extra set of eyes on the property 24 hours a day.”

For Derek Roberts, President of WE Trans Support, this type of support came as a surprise. “Words cannot express our gratitude to Security ONE for helping out in our time of need,” he said. “When I got the call from Corey asking how they could help, I was just blown away.”

Robertson says giving back to the community is part of Security ONE’s DNA. “We’re grateful to Windsor and Essex County for 43 years of business,” he said. “We owe our success to our customers and our community partners.”

  • Thanks For Making This Year A Little Better – A Letter From The CEO

    Dear Security ONE Clients,

First off – a big thank you for the trust you put in us every day to protect your family, your property, and your businesses. It’s been a roller coaster of a year and I’m inspired by how our clients have innovated, adapted, and made security a priority in a turbulent world.

I’m also very proud of the Security ONE team and how we were quick to adapt, put safety first and give back to those who needed it most. Being an essential service provider and community partner is a privilege and our team did not fail to respond.

Starting with the wild idea to host a Live at Home Country Concert Series featuring award winning country superstar, Eric Ethridge, and rising talent, Buck Twenty, we were able to raise $10,000 for local food banks across Southwestern Ontario.

Shortly thereafter, with social distance measures in effect, many caregivers were unable to visit aging loved ones and we became aware of an increasing need for our medical alert product. Our team was quick to recognize a need to help and we donated our remaining Numactive Medical Alert inventory to over 75 seniors to use for FREE during the lockdown.

And most recently, in response to Small Business Month and our 7th Annual “Who Deserves to Win Campaign”, we were able to donate over $10,000 in Security and Monitoring equipment to 30 small businesses, with our grand prize going to Plant Joy, a vegan donut shop located in Windsor, Ontario.

Giving back is in our DNA and we hope that we were able to provide peace of mind to those who needed it most. That being said – we’d love to provide a few more small businesses a gift card to assist with some upgrades. If you know a small business that could use some help – please let us know at the link below.

Looking forward to 2021, the Security ONE team is fully committed to be your trusted security advisor and help eliminate your worries through technology.

I hope you have a safe, secure, and peaceful holiday season.

  • Fall Safety Tips To Help You & Your Family Stay Safe This Season

Fall Safety Tips To Help You & Your Family Stay Safe This Season

Summer has came and went. The leaves are falling, the colours are changing and the temperatures are dropping. Fall also brings some hazards we need to be cautious about. But with the right Fall Safety Tips, you can still enjoy the autumn season and everything it has to offer.

Here are some tips to consider when planning for Fall:

    Back To School Traffic

Having the kids back at school means more traffic on the roads in the morning and late afternoons.

Be alert when you’re crossing the street or driving in a school zone. People tend to rush things in the morning as they run around trying to get their kids to school and make it to work on time

    Falling Leaves

As the leaves start to change colours, they also start to FALL. Falling leaves become slippery once they hit the ground and can pose as a safety threat no matter if you’re driving or walking.

You never know what kind of garbage or debris ended up in that pile you just raked – especially if you live on a busy street or neighbourhood.

    Fire Safety

Your furnace and heaters have been sitting untouched all summer long.

Turning them on without properly inspecting and servicing them can be a fire hazard. Be sure to get an inspection of your heating system and anything else that hasn’t been used in a while.

    Wet Surfaces

Fall weather usually brings with it colder and damper temperatures.

Rain takes longer to evaporate in the colder weather and thus makes everything wet for longer periods of time, creating potential slip and fall scenarios. Double check everything before you use it or walk on it (ladders, sidewalks, railings, etc)

    Unpredictable Weather

Ontario weather can be unpredictable. You could be wearing a t-shirt during the day and bundled up in your winter jacket a few hours later.

Always be prepared for unpredictable weather changes when you’re going to be outdoors for long periods of time. If you don’t have an emergency car kit in your vehicle already, now is a good time to get one before the weather gets even colder

    Battery Check

Test your batteries and replace them if necessary. Make sure you have backups on hand in case of power outages or other emergencies.

Make sure your smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and other important emergency devices are in working order and have fresh batteries

    Reflective Clothing

It’s getting darker earlier but the dog still needs to be walked and exercise is still a part of many people’s daily routine.

Make sure you wear reflective clothing if you’re out at night – this includes your four-legged friend on their collars or leash to make sure they’re visible to people driving by.

If you consider these 7 things, you’ll be sure that you and your family have a safe and happy Fall season!

  • Security ONE launches Fever Detection Camera Service to assist Local Businesses

Security ONE launches Fever Detection Camera Service to assist Local Businesses

As Ontario begins to reopen the economy, many businesses are faced with concerns surrounding how to ‘re-open’ during a global pandemic. Many employees are fearful to return to work and business leaders are concerned that one case of COVID-19 among their workforce could be disastrous for workforce productivity and morale. Therefore, it is imperative that business leaders have a system in place to screen employees for fever symptoms prior to entering the workforce.

The traditional method of screening for fevers is labour intensive and slow, often resulting in long line ups to get into work and precious time/money spent.

As a result, Security ONE Alarm Systems has launched a ‘Fever Detection Screening Service’ using HD thermal cameras that are linked to a sophisticated software program to accurately and efficiently screen employees entering the workplace.

The cameras are positioned in the entrance ways of the facility and can screen up to 30 employees at once, allowing for quick and non-intrusive assessment of elevated skin temperatures. If an employee is determined to surpass the skin temperature threshold set by the software, an audible alarm will sound, and that employee can be further examined to assess their condition prior to entering the workforce.

President & CEO, Chris Neumann, shares that “it’s amazing to see how quickly our technology partners have stepped up to repurpose thermal security technology for a new application that can help our business clients in a big way. We’ve seen major interest in the manufacturing, agriculture and greenhouse space since launching this service last month.”

Security ONE’s Director of Technical Service, Jeff Tavares, explains that “it was important for us to conduct our own in-house testing of this technology and really understand how to configure the product to ensure accurate readings. There are a lot of products on the market and it was our job to determine the most reliable solution for our clients.”

Business leaders are invited to reach out to Security ONE for a customized courtesy demonstration of this new service at 519-326-2020 or by email at sales@securityonealarm.com.

    PRESS RELEASE

Security ONE to provide FREE medical alerts to the vulnerable during the Covid-19 crisis

May 28, 2020 – (Leamington, ON) – During these unprecedented times more and more vulnerable citizens are at home alone. In addition, self-isolation and social distancing guidelines have made it nearly impossible to check in on loved ones that are elderly or convalescing at home.

Recognizing the vulnerable position this puts individuals who now must self-isolate at home in, or who are otherwise vulnerable, Security ONE Alarm Systems is teaming with local health care agencies and care givers to provide monitored Medical Alert Devices at no charge during this period.

“These medical alerts are essentially personal emergency response systems,” says Corey Robertson, Manager of Community Partnerships at Security ONE. “Help is just the push of a button away.”

The devices have 2-way voice communication built into them, can track GPS location and feature a Smart Fall Detection. “This robust little unit maintains its functionality wherever it goes,” says Robertson. “It is really designed to maintain your independence.”

Robertson explains that giving back to the community is ingrained in Security ONE’s culture. “We stand in awe of the amazing work the frontline workers and caregivers across the region do in our communities,” he says. “We are pleased to provide this service for those in need at no charge for an 8-week period.”

  • The Importance of Security

    The Importance of Security

There are so many unknowns at this point about what is yet to come. We are being told to isolate and when possible work from home. Our businesses are being closed temporarily and we have a work force aware that this situation may lead to a state of unemployment.

Having a monitored alarm system has always been a priority for home and businesses, and now is the time to ensure that you have adequate security.

Cameras have a very practical use at this time for HR Management as companies need to closely monitor who is coming and going from the business to prevent the spread of this devastating virus.

Remote access provides you with awareness when you are closed up and offsite.

Existing cameras can also be configured for proactive video solutions. This allows for third party monitoring so criminal and health and safety activities can be verified and prioritized by your monitor station and the appropriate first responders.

Access control is also another instrumental technology providing real-time notifications and allowing for Realtime reporting on who is entering your business during this outbreak. Companies can control who has access. Knowing when and where is critical information for business owners and management.

For those with existing alarm systems now is a wise time to assess what you have in place. Does your system have what it needs and is it working properly and able to communicate with you and your monitoring station effectively? Consult with an expert.

A couple reminders for those with monitored systems at home and business:

Arm your system in stay mode when you are onsite. This will protect you and staff if you have to be at work and will deter anyone from entering without staff being notified.

Arm your system in away mode when you are offsite. This activates motions as well as contacts and glass break and shock sensors.

Life safety devices like smoke, carbon monoxide and flood are always active and monitoring allows you to know when any of those situations become a crisis.

Your safety and piece of mind at home and at your business is always our focus and we are here to help provide information and service during this difficult time.

We are here to educate and support homes and business in our Ontario community and can be reached at 1-800-265-5317

  • Benefits of a Security System

    Benefits of a Security System

    Family

For most people, the biggest reason for investing in a home
security system is to protect the ones they love. And there’s a good reason for
that. A monitored home security system notifies you of water leaks, carbon
monoxide, fires, and intrusion – whether you’re there or not. Statistics show
that a monitored security system deters 60% of would-be burglars and helps
alert the authorities in the event of an actual intrusion.

    Insurance Savings

Most insurance companies understand the benefits of
protecting your property and assets with a security system. That’s why most will
discount your homeowner’s insurance when you provide them with proof a monitored
security system. On average, the discount is 15%

    Smart Home Integration

The latest and greatest home security systems are “smart home” devices. They integrate with the internet of things-  smart appliances, smart light bulbs, smart deadbolts and more. A smart security system allows you to control these devices remotely. Imagine arming your security system from your phone each morning on your way to work and your doors lock, your lights switch off, and your garage door closes as you drive away. And, imagine controlling all those devices from the same app on your smartphone, tablet, or home computer – even when you’re away!

  • Winter Safety for South Western Ontario

Winter Safety for South Western Ontario

Winter Safety Tips for Your Home

It is still winter. It is still cold. And there is still important work to be done around the house to keep your family and property safe. While home safety should always be a priority, winter brings added risks due to increased heating use, freezing temperatures, and more time spent indoors. Taking a proactive approach now can help prevent fires, water damage, and costly repairs.

Fire Safety and Monitored Smoke Detection

Fire safety should always be top of mind, but especially during the winter months when furnaces, fireplaces, space heaters, and additional electronics are working overtime. Check all smoke detectors in your home and replace the batteries as needed. Smoke detectors should be installed on every level of the home and near sleeping areas.

For an added layer of protection, monitored smoke detectors provide peace of mind even when you are not home. If smoke or fire is detected, a professionally monitored system can automatically alert emergency services, helping reduce response times and potential damage. It is also important to ensure your family has a well rehearsed fire escape plan. Everyone in the household should know at least two ways out of each room and where to meet safely outside.

    Space Heater and Furnace Safety

Take a few minutes to inspect the area around your furnace and heating equipment. Keep flammable materials such as cardboard, cleaning supplies, or paint well away from the unit. Furnaces work harder during cold weather and need adequate clearance to operate safely.

If you use space heaters, keep them a safe distance from beds, curtains, and furniture. Always turn them off when leaving the room or going to sleep, and never leave them unattended. Space heaters should never be used to dry wet clothing such as mittens, hats, or socks, as this significantly increases the risk of fire.

    Flood and Freeze Monitoring Protection

Winter is one of the most common times for water damage to occur in a home. Frozen or burst pipes, failing sump pumps, and water heaters can cause extensive damage in a very short period of time.

Flood and freeze monitoring sensors help protect your home by detecting water leaks and dangerously low temperatures before major damage occurs. When professionally monitored, these sensors can alert you and the monitoring centre immediately, even if you are away or on vacation, allowing for fast action to prevent costly repairs.

    Fireplace and Chimney Safety

If your home has a fireplace or wood burning stove, chimney maintenance is critical. Ensure your chimney is clear so smoke and gases can vent properly. A professional inspection is recommended, but a quick visual check of the exterior bricks can help identify visible cracks or deterioration.

Inside the home, store matches, lighters, and candles safely out of reach of children and pets, and never leave open flames unattended.

    Winterizing and Exterior Home Checks

Winterizing your home helps improve safety, efficiency, and comfort. Inspect windows and doors for drafts or damaged seals, and repair or replace weather stripping as needed. Look for loose shingles, slanting concrete, or damaged window sills that could worsen with freezing and thawing cycles.

Check all outdoor lighting fixtures to ensure they are working properly and securely mounted. Proper lighting improves visibility, helps prevent slips and falls, and adds an extra layer of security during long winter nights.

    Advanced Protection Logic

    Advanced Protection Logic

Security ONE’s Advanced Protection Logic protects our smart
security systems from burglars who try to destroy the panel before the siren
even sounds. Most security systems are programmed to have an entry delay to allow
you time to arm and disarm your system. This APL technology sends a silent
alarm to our ULC listed, 5 Diamond certified monitoring station.

What’s more, a wireless security system protects you against criminals that would try to defeat a security system by cutting the wires with a $2 pair of wire cutters.

APL works like this – when the first contact is tripped, a signal is sent to monitoring station. Either an alarm or a successful disarm will follow. If neither is received by the time the entry delay is has lapsed, the silent alarm is sent, and the authorities are dispatched.

    In Windsor, ON

It was a Saturday night in July when an intruder brock into
a local convenience store in Windsor. The burglar heard the constant beeping of
the system’s entry delay and immediately ran over to smash the system. Even by
smashing the keypad, the criminal did not defeat the security system. The
silent alarm had been sent to the monitoring station and the police were
    dispatched immediately.
