  • How To Make Your Home Safer

How To Make Your Home Safer

As a home owner, the protection of your valuables and
personal safety is be a top priority. Protecting your home can be easier than
you think! With some preparation, you can make your home safer without spending
much time or effort. Here are 3 ways to make your home safer!

    Fire Safety

Make sure you have at least one smoke detector installed on
each floor of your home. The smoke detectors should be regularly tested to
ensure their functionality. Changing batteries in smoke detectors is as easy as
changing the when change your clocks! Also take a few moments to draw up a planned
fire escape – and involve the whole family! A smart security system from
Security ONE can even monitor smoke detectors. That’s like having an extra set
of eyes and ears on your home even when asleep or away.

    Avoid Injuries

Take a walk through your home and take note of any areas
that are likely to cause slips, trips and falls. Look for and repair any loose
wires, rugs, cluttered floors or dimly lit stairwells to maximize your family’s
safety. The most common cause of injuries in the home is falls, so don’t
overlook this simple tip. Once your home hazards are eliminated, you and your
family will feel more at ease. If you or a loved one is at risk of falling, ask
    about our GPS medical alerts!

    Reduce Access to Water Sources

Water is one of the most dangerous things in your house. If
you have young children or pets, water is even more dangerous. Don’t leave your
kids or pets without supervision. It takes only an inch of water for an infant
to drown. Improve your security plan by updating your security system with a
water leak detector or flood sensor. This will help prevent small leaks from
    becoming pricey floods.

  • Summer Safety

    Summer Safety

Summer is the is top season for moving, and the top season for leaving the house to go exploring. But, it’s also the top season for home break-ins. Here are tips to make your home, new or old, less inviting to would-be criminals.
    1. Install a home security system
If your new place doesn’t already have a security system we can help. From traditional home burglary systems to smart security systems to video surveillance, Security ONE has you covered.

    2. Secure the garage
Burglars always look for the easiest way to get into a home, which is often the garage. Always keep your garage door locked, and use a quality, heavy-duty lock.
    3. Keep the yard tidy
Overgrown bushes, trees, and shrubs are easy places for criminals to hide. A well kept yard also indicates someone is usually home. Install motion lights for added security at night.
    4. Don’t broadcast your plans
Planning a vacation this summer? While it’s fun to brag about vacations on social media, you should keep it under wraps. Don’t advertise to the world that your house will be empty during your vacation. Wait until you’re safely back at home to share the details of your awesome trip.

    5. Ask your neighbors for help
Neighbors can be a great thing. When you move in, introduce yourself to your neighbors. If you’re going to be out of town for any length of time, let them know. Tell them you’ll keep an eye on their house when they’re away, and ask if they’ll keep an eye on yours. Offer to trade chores like bringing in the mail or cutting the lawn.
    6. Don’t leave valuables outside
After a long day working in the yard, it is easy to leave your garden tools out until you’ve completely finished. But leaving valuable items in the yard is an invitation to criminals and it makes their jobs easy. The same goes  for your kids with their bikes and toys. Always put your valuable items away when you’re done using them for the day.
    7. Don’t keep keys outside
You may think you’re being sneaky by hiding a key under the doormat, but that’s the first place any criminal is going to look. Invest in a proper lock box and leave spare key with a trusted neighbor, friend, or family member.
    8. Shut the windows
Lastly, though it may be tempting to open the windows and keep them open on a beautiful day, don’t. Even if you think you’ll only be gone for a few minutes, always close and lock all windows when you leave the house.

  • Access Control

    Access Control

Access Control can have a huge impact on your business’ security. Keyless Entry is everywhere, from our vehicles to our homes. By bringing it into the workplace, you eliminate the concern and expense of lost keys and re-doing locks when an employee is terminated. Access Control delivers convenience and can be cost-effective. Here are some other business security benefits of making the move to access control.

The installation costs of access control systems are lower now than ever before. Gone are the days of long, complex wiring jobs, with wireless devices driving the install. And of course, access control systems can continue to pay a return on investment over time by protecting you from break ins, employee management and unauthorized access.

Because access control systems are now wireless, the installation costs can be lower than you think.

The technology behind Access control technology is pretty cool by itself, but it’s even better when it’s integrated with the rest of your security plan, such as video surveillance.

When it comes to access control, Security ONE can customize the system to your needs. Whether its access cards or fobs for the employee’s entrance, we can also limit access to sensitive areas in your facility.

Leave keys behind and make the shift to access control. Call 1-800-265-5317 to learn more or just CLICK HERE.!

  • Security ONE Saves House From Flood

Security ONE Saves House From Flood

Security ONE customer Ron Ricci of Leamington credits Security ONE with saving him from a potential 100% renovation of his basement.

While on a 2-week European vacation with his wife, Ricci received a call from Security ONE notifying him that his Sump Pump alarm had gone off. “I called back to Canada to have my neighbor go over to make sure everything was alright”, Ricci told Security ONE.

The neighbor reported that the discharge line for the sump pump was blocked and that water was backing up. Within 20 minutes a plumber was on scene as the water had spread to the boiler room  and was beginning to threaten the carpeting in the Entertainment Room and Bar area.

Ricci says some of the capeting had to be replaced, but knew it could have much worse. “Had Security ONE not been so quick to respond, the entire basement not only would have been flooded, but would have sat for another week until we got back from Italy. Everything could have been ruined”.

Ricci also credits his wonderful neighbor for coordinating the efforts with the plumber and restoration company. “I could have been faced with tens of thousands of dollars worth of renovations, so the monthly monitoring fee I pay has proven to be more than worth it”, Ricci said.

  • School Bus Safety

    School Bus Safety

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for parents! Back too school.

It’s important that drivers remember that when a school bus has its flashing lights on, you must come to a stop. Once the lights have stopped flashing, you can proceed.

Here are some safety tips to share with children to ensure safe travel.

Getting to and on the school bus:
    1. Get to the bus stop at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Kids should never run after a school bus to try to catch it. If you miss the bus, kids should just head back home to get a ride.
    2. Kids should always stay on the sidewalk, well back from the road and should wait there until the bus has come to a full stop and the bus doors are opened.
    3. If the bus stop is across the street, remind kids to look to the left, then to the right, and to the left once more before crossing the street – just like drivers!
    4. Always use the handrail when getting on or off the bus.
